The Evangelism + Church Health Conference, ECON, as it is called, presented by the Arkansas Baptist State Convention, annually features some of nation’s most renown Gospel preachers, champions for the Great Commission who are known for their heart for the reaching the lost for Christ. The 2023 ECON featured Mid-America alumnus Dr. Ed Newton (MARE, 2000) in the keynote message on Monday evening, January 23, 2023.

In his message, Dr. Newton challenges listeners to make evangelism a priority, encouraging them to reach out to people whom many overlook, people like Zacchaeus. “May your ministry be a sycamore tree,” said Dr. Newton, “that just lifts people up so they can see Jesus.” In leading others to Christ, Dr. Newton urges believers to desperately seek the presence of Jesus in their own lives. “If you got what you wanted from Jesus, would Jesus get what He wanted from you?”

Dr. Newton has served as the Lead Pastor at Community Bible Church, San Antonio, Texas, since 2016. He has also written curriculum for Lifeway Students and been featured in the Mid-America Messenger Winter 2015 and Summer 2017 issues.
