David L. Allen serves as Distinguished Professor of Practical Theology and Dean of the Adrian Rogers Center for Preaching at Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. Allen was formerly the Distinguished Professor of Preaching and Director of the Southwestern Center for Expository Preaching at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He was previously Dean of the School of Theology from 2004–2016 and Dean of the School of Preaching from 2016–2020 at Southwestern. Dr. Allen is the founder of PreachingCoach, a non-profit ministry offering coaching, mentoring, and leadership training to pastors and Christian leaders world-wide. He hosts the PreachingCoach podcast weekly.
Trusting Christ at age of nine, he responded to God’s call to preach at age 16. He received the B.A. at Criswell College (1978), Master of Divinity at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (1981), and Ph.D. in Humanities with a Major in Linguistics from The University of Texas at Arlington (1987).
During his ministry he served as senior pastor of two churches for a total of 21 years and has served as interim pastor of more than a dozen churches. Dr. Allen has led or been a part of over 450 revivals, Bible conferences, and lecture series, including study tours and conferences in the Philippines, Israel, Oxford, Germany, Nigeria, Zambia, Peru, Canada, Mexico, South Korea, India, and Kazakhstan.

Dr. Allen is married to Kate Finley, founder and president of Kate Finley Wealth Strategies. Kate is a Certified Private Wealth Advisor and Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor.
