Dr. John Babler elected Vice President of ACBC Board of Trustees
Highlighting Mid-America’s leadership role in equipping biblical counselors, Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary and College is pleased to announce that Dr. John Babler, Chairman of the Biblical Counseling Department and Professor of Biblical Counseling, has been elected Vice President of the Board of Trustees of the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC).
Dr. Babler has been involved with ACBC since the early 1990s and became a certified counselor in 1998. Over the years, the organization has played a significant role in shaping his approach to biblical counseling and strengthening his commitment to the sufficiency of Scripture in counseling.
“The Association of Certified Biblical Counselors has been a blessing and a very significant influence on me and my practice of biblical counseling,” Dr. Babler said.
As Vice President, Dr. Babler will serve on ACBC’s Executive Council, helping provide leadership and direction for the organization as it continues to equip counselors and advance the biblical counseling movement. Dr. Babler will also continue in his full capacity as Chairman and Professor of Biblical Counseling at Mid-America.
Babler emphasized the importance of ACBC’s role in preserving the historical convictions that have shaped the biblical counseling movement while preparing counselors to minister effectively today.
Dr. Babler observes that one of the biggest challenges the biblical counseling field faces today is countering the forces which are trying to move the field away from historical convictions held by the early leaders of the field. Dr. Babler said, “ACBC has a major role in reminding those in the field of those historical convictions and teaching why they are significant even today.”
He also highlighted the organization’s continuing commitment to training and certification as essential to its mission.
“Another major role of ACBC is to provide training and certification for biblical counselors, which was the original purpose and continues to be the primary focus of the organization,” he said.
Dr. Babler expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in this new leadership capacity. “I am honored to be a part of the organization and to be entrusted with a leadership role.”
Like his predecessor in leading the biblical counseling movement, Dr. Jay E. Adams, Dr. Babler is a leader on a nationwide and global scale. Dr. Babler leads the Mid-America Institute for Nouthetic Studies, oversees seven levels of biblical counseling training at Mid-America, and has created a biblical counseling training and certificate program called Counseling by The Book.
His election reflects Mid-America’s ongoing commitment to biblical counseling education and to preparing men and women to minister God’s Word faithfully in the lives of others.
