Dr. Redd was born in Tyler, Texas, where he went to First Baptist Church every time the doors were open. At age 9 he received Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and Lord. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Baylor University in 1982 and followed with a Master of Business Administration from The University of Texas at Tyler in 1985. Dr. Redd earned a PhD in Strategic Management from Sullivan University in 2017. He worked in the oil and gas industry in East Texas for a number of years prior to accepting the position of Executive Director of Christian Mission Concerns Foundation. It was that position that moved Dr. Redd to the Memphis area in 1986. He met his wife Melanie at Bellevue Baptist Church in 1989, and they were married in September 1990. She speaks at women’s conferences, 360 Family Conferences, and teaches women’s Bible studies in local churches. Her first book, Stepping Closer to the Savior, like all of her books (currently six), is a great read, and her devotional for teenage girls, Live in Light (2019), is a best seller! Her latest book is a 90-day devotional journal entitled Just Rest, published in 2022. Her blog melanieredd.com is both encouraging and inspirational.

Dr. Redd has two children. His son currently attends MABTS, and his daughter graduated from the University of Memphis and works in the Memphis area. He has a sister and a brother and two stepsisters, all who live in Texas. His brother ministers at a church in the North Dallas area.

Dr. Redd serves as Vice President for Finance and Operations/Institutional Advancement and Professor of Business Administration and Management. He also serves as Minister of Music at Gracepoint Baptist Church in Cordova, Tennessee, where they attend. Prior ministry experience includes serving as Interim Pastor at Ellendale Baptist Church, Administrative Pastor at Englewood Baptist Church, Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Minister of Church Programming at Bellevue Baptist Church, Cordova, Tennessee, and Minister of Church Growth at First Baptist Church of Snellville, Georgia. He holds membership in the Association of Business Administrators of Christian Colleges, the National Association of Business Officers as well as the National Association of College and University Business Officers. In 2016, he was inducted into Sigma Beta Delta, the International Honor Society for Business, Management and Administration. His has business experience in the oil and gas, real estate, sales, shipping, utilities, as well as serving on staff over 21 years at five wonderful Southern Baptist Churches. In addition to his teaching at Mid-America and area pulpit supply, Dr. Redd has taught in Men’s Ministry, Evangelism Training, Volunteer Ministries Training, and at various Discipleship Conferences.

In response to “I’m sure you would never guess this about me,” Dr. Redd responds, “At Baylor, I served one year as a mascot trainer. Our mascot at Baylor was the North American Black Bear. Working with the bear was awesome! But, keeping the bear pit cleaned was not!”
