What is pastoral Ministries?

At its core, pastoral ministry is providing spiritual care for God’s people. In the Bible, the image of a shepherd is often used in pastoral roles. Shepherds carefully guarded, lead, disciplined, and sacrificed for those God entrusted to them.

John the Apostle expresses the heart and ambition of a pastor when he writes, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth” (3 John 4). Seeing people know, understand, and live the truth is what pastoral ministry is all about.

How is a degree in pastoral Ministries applicable for today?

By the year 2040, half of the U.S. population is projected to live in just eight states. The other half will live in rural and suburban areas. The immense need in the years to come is for pastors, both full-time and bi-vocational, to serve those coming to know Jesus in these contexts.

Is Pastoral Ministries a good fit for me?

While the Bible is clear on the qualifications for pastors, there are many who qualify but don’t have an aptitude or desire to be one. How do you know if you have the aptitude for pastoral ministry?

Meet Dr. Kenneth Lewis

Dr. Kenneth Lewis has served churches in various capacities such as Bible teacher, Christian Education director, deacon, associate minister, itinerant preacher, church planter, and interim pastor. He also serves as a Workplace Chaplain for Marketplace Chaplains, USA. He has participated in missions trips to the Dominican Republic, Indonesia, and Ivory Coast (West Africa) to spread the Gospel and to train pastors and church leaders.

He currently serves as Director of Information Services and Assistant Professor of Practical Theology, Church History, and New Testament at MABTS. He is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society (ETS) and the Evangelical Homiletics Society (EHS).

Dr. Lewis and his wife, Benita, have been married since July 2000. They have three children: Kendrell, Kennedy, and Lauren.

His passion is to know Christ through learning and living, and to make Christ known through proclamation and practice.
