The purpose (mission) and goals of Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary (MABTS) are identified in an approved and appropriate mission statement [1] which is reviewed annually by students on the Student Survey, questions 30-40 [2], on the Faculty Survey, questions 1-2 [3], and the Trustees during their bi-annual meeting [4].

The degree programs at MABTS help to fulfill the institution’s mission to “provide graduate theological training for effective service in church-related and missions vocations through its main campus and designated branch campuses.” The 2014-15 MABTS Catalog lists degrees and program requirements and summarizes curricular requirements for each field of study [5]. The associate degree programs at MABTS all have a minimum of 60 required credit hours [6]. All associate degree students at the seminary must satisfy the core curriculum requirements in order to graduate [7]. The Master of Arts degree program at MABTS also require a minimum of 60 required credit hours [8]. The Master degree programs at MABTS all have a minimum of 90 required credit hours [9], and the Doctorate of Ministry degree program requires 32 hours of study [10] and the Doctor of Philosophy requires 64 hours [11]. The Academic Council (chairpersons of each academic program) prescribes the process for the review of courses, curricula, and changes to existing courses [12]. All new programs must be approved by the Board of Trustees [13] and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges [14].
