Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary’s (MABTS) policies on transfer of credit for degree completion ensure at least twenty-five percent of credit hours are earned at MABTS. Each degree program has a limit on the number of hours that can be transferred from another institution. Associate programs (60 hours) have a limit of thirty hours that may be transferred. The bachelor program (120 hours) has a transfer limit of ninety hours, and the master of arts program (60 hours) has a transfer limit of thirty hours. The three-year (90 hours) master programs allow sixty hours to be transferred . Typically, MABTS doctoral degree students do not transfer in credit. However, after strict evaluation and approval from the student’s doctoral advisor and the PhD Committee, rare exceptions have been made. At least fifty percent of the work counted toward a MABTS doctoral degree must be completed at the institution.
Credit Hour Monitoring
MABTS maintains a Degree Audit Worksheet for each student in all degree programs . The school provides academic advising to all students to assist them in scheduling classes, to aid in selecting courses for effective training, and to help ensure timely completion of their courses. Students are responsible for initiating contact with their assigned academic advisor. Academic advisors are available to meet with assigned students during registration of each semester and by appointment , at which time advisors evaluate the student’s progress regarding curriculum, grade point average, and proper recording of any transfer credit(s). The Registrar is available as a resource to evaluate degree audits. The Registrar performs a transcript audit one semester before a student graduates. After the academic record has been verified, the student is placed on the graduation list .
Requirements for graduation are disseminated via the 2014-15 MABTS Catalog to students and academic advisors and on the Registrar’s page on the school’s website . The transfer credit rules are also posted on the website , and hard copies are made available by the Admissions and Registrar’s offices upon request. Policies on the acceptance of transfer of credits are published in the Catalog .
The Registrar’s office monitors the number of credit hours earned at the institution in relation to the total number of credit hours required for the degree . Each transcript contains a list of total credits and institutional credits, as well as the grade point averages associated with each . Transcripts specify the dates and institutions from which credits have been earned under the list of courses and grades for the semester. Grades received for coursework accepted in transfer are designated at the beginning of the transcript.
The institution does not award academic degrees earned in collaboration with any other institution.
