Narrative

At Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary (MABTS), all branch campuses related to the parent campus through corporate or administrative control include the name of the parent campus and make it clear that its accreditation is dependent on the continued accreditation of the parent campus. The Northeast Branch contains the name of the parent campus, namely, MABTS [1] and there is clear denotation of Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) Accreditation [2]. The branch campus is located at 2810 Curry Road, Schenectady, New York, 12303. The phone number is 518-355-4000. Also, see 2014-15 MABTS Catalog title page [3].

The branch campus of MABTS has been evaluated during reviews seeking candidacy, initial membership, or reaffirmation of accreditation, and all other extended units under the accreditation of the parent campus are also evaluated during such reviews. To document this, the following is offered as evidence (also found in Comprehensive Standard 3.13.4):

·      Courses offered are consistent with the courses offered at the main campus and provide a pathway to a degree through a combination of distance, online, and on-campus offerings [4].

·      Students taking classes at extension centers and through the online programs must meet all academic requirements for admission [5].

·      Credit hour requirements are in accord with federal regulations, namely, (1) not less than one hour of classroom or direct faculty instruction and a minimum of two hours out of class student work each week for approximately fifteen weeks or (2) at least an equivalent amount of work as required outlined in item 1 above for other academic activities as established by the institution including laboratory work, internships, practica, studio work, and other academic work leading to the award of credit hours [6].

·      Students register by the same means and on the same dates as all other students through SonisWeb [7].

·      Students operate under the same grading scale and regulations [8].

·      Students receive their grades in the same way as all other students [9].

3.13.5.b. Applicable Policy Statement. If the Commission on Colleges determines that an extended unit is autonomous to the extent that the control over that unit by the parent or its board is significantly impaired, the Commission may direct that the extended unit seek to become a separately accredited institution. A unit which seeks separate accreditation should bear a different name from that of the parent. A unit which is located in a state or country outside the geographic jurisdiction of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and which the Commission determines should be separately accredited or the institution requests to be separately accredited, applies for separate accreditation from the regional accrediting association that accredits colleges in that state or country.
