Evangelism
Mid-America's Passion for Evangelism
by Dr. B. Gray Allison
Since 1972 when Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary began training men and women for ministry, we have kept our three-fold emphases of Bible preaching, missions, and evangelism. Because of our commitment to the Bible as the inerrant Word of God, we take very seriously all the commands of Jesus found in scripture. In five different New Testament books, our Lord has told us to be witnesses for Him wherever we go all over the world.
Because of our commitment to Him as Lord and our desire to follow His commands, we have tried to equip the students at Mid-America Seminary to be obedient. Since the beginning of Mid-America we have required that professors and students be soul-winners. We train our students to be witnesses through required courses in evangelism and through practical missions activity in the community. Mid-America has always required that students witness with the Word of God to at least one lost person every week in a genuine attempt to lead that person to Christ. It is our fervent prayer that this requirement will lead the students to become life long witnesses for Christ.
The intent of this requirement has never been legalistic in nature, but rooted in loving obedience. We want those who attend this school to leave here with a heart for God, a love of His Word, a love for souls, and a commitment to bring others to Christ.
The Seminary has grown from the original class of 28 students to over 500 students today. In over 30 years, our students, while in school, have led almost 155,000 people to saving faith in Jesus Christ. We rejoice with Heaven as we see people born into the family of God. The Bible says, “Joy shall be in Heaven over one sinner that repenteth….”
