May 14, 2010 

The Development Council meeting was called to order by Chairman, Morris Mills at 8:30 a.m. 

Randy Redd led the members in singing “Leaning On the Everlasting Arms” and “Blessed Assurance” 

The meeting opened with prayer led by Truman Sandlin. Mr. Sandlin lifted up prayer for Jim Waggner, Sean Berry, Dr. Gray and Voncille Allison. Jim Glover, Nita Mills, and Mike Weeks. 

Dr. Gary Redding reported that Dr. Mike Spradlin was in route to New York for graduation ceremonies at the Northeast Campus. Dr. Redding also announced the student/seminary family picnic is scheduled for Saturday, May 15. Rain or shine, the picnic is scheduled and will take place. If rain, the activities will move indoors. 

Development and Special Events, Bill McGaughey, Chairman

Chairman McGaughey reported on plans for the Mid America Development Council Golf Tournament. The tournament is scheduled for August 12, 2010. Development Council members are requested to assist in developing sponsorships and to pray for the committee activities. Notify Bill McGaughey with suggestions for sponsors. There is a goal of 30 teams. The tournament will be held at Southwind TPC with  a morning start. 

Lenny’s Subs will provide lunch. An awards dinner is scheduled at MABTS on Friday, August 13, 6:30 p.m.   

All proceeds are directed to the Morris Mills Memorial Scholarship fund. 

Scholarship and Student Relations, Jimmie Williams, Chairman

Jimmie Williams, Chairman shared plans for the student picnic scheduled for May 15 on the athletic field.  The picnic is  scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. and last until 1:00 p.m.  This event is designed to encourage Council members and urge them to attend and to get involved with the students. Mr. Williams requested prayer for the event  

Communication and Publications, Fred Rawlinson, Chairman

Mr. Rawlinson updated the council on the activities of the committee. Design activities include consultation on brochure design for the golf tournament and for Seminary Studies for Seniors. The committee is also consulting on logo and corporate identity development. Committee members have also planned one-on-one meetings with area churches to inform them of the educational opportunities available for seniors.  

For  a student testimony, Dr. Redding introduced James Cordes, a first year student at Mid-America. Mr. Cordes, from Gadsen, Alabama, served as a youth minister in Gadsen, and is a former marine. Struggling to know what do do with his life, he felt the Lord asking him, “Will you die for me.” As he pondered his future, he was directed to Phillipians 1, and eventually was led to Mid America.  

 
The meeting was adjourned with prayer at 8:00 a.m.
